Successful Kickstarter Campaign

In collaboration with a creative partner, we successfully created one of the first commercially viable POV fidget spinners in a highly compact design during the height of the fidget spinner trend. My responsibilities included 3D modeling, electronics design, and firmware development. I also crafted a comprehensive business strategy including shipping, customer service and accounting, leading to a successful Kickstarter launch. The product continued to thrive post-Kickstarter, yielding substantial profits.

AI GPT System for Local Company

Directed the development of a functional prototype for a secure "ChatGPT" system, leveraging company documentation and the open-source platform AnythingLLM. Crafted the software infrastructure and hardware configuration, which featured a secure physical server with a cost-effective NVIDIA GPU to facilitate the neural network's operation in a data center. Trained the system and identified various use cases for operations, sales, and HR functions. The system effectively responded to queries while accurately citing the relevant documentation. It was designed to be secure and isolated from the internet, enabling the company to pursue AI adoption while addressing the regulatory and privacy challenges associated with utilizing public GPT systems like OpenAI and others.

VR Flight Simulator Control Interface

Created a prototype for a user-friendly control interface specifically designed for flight simulators. The VRBox functions as a joystick simulator and includes a specialized integration for Digital Combat Simulator. The design is optimized for virtual reality use, ensuring that users can operate it without visual access to the controller. This project has been released as open source.

Synthesizer Module for VCVRack

Developer of the SoftSN Machine, a popular open source VCVRack module with over 23,000 modular synth fan subscribers, including a review by acclaimed musician Omri Cohen. The SoftSN Machine features multiple controls and emulates the analog circuitry of the SN76477 IC chip, which was widely used in the 1970s for games like Space Invaders. This emulator provides an authentic representation of the original device, reflecting its unique traits and limitations as if it were built in 1978.

Field Dispatch System for Local Company

Developed and maintained a field management system for a local company. Written in PHP with MySQL backend. The system interfaced with a mobile tracking app (Verizon Telenav Track) and the company's billing system to send jobs to technicians and track hours. The system enhanced the ability to manage technicians in the field and resulting in significant savings and increased jobs per tech per day.

Interactive Projection Floor System

Designed, built and donated a Floor Projection system for GiGi's Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center in Syracuse, NY. This system is constructed largely from recycled parts, including a projector acquired through Ebay. With the help of affordable software from LumoPlay, the interactive games offer engaging math and language activities that encourage movement and social interaction.

Home Security System - Industrial Control

Engineered a robust Home Security System based on Home Assistant. Applied standard industrial control methodologies for installation, power supply, sensors, battery backup and cable management.

Traditional Lapstrake Sailboat

My workshop is well-equipped for both woodworking and light metalworking, which is advantageous for specific projects or niche products. This project was the pinnacle of a lifetime of wood working as a hobby. I completed the Sunshine Yacht Tender in my shop, utilizing hand tools as much as possible and not much more than a stack of rough-cut lumber, bronze bolts, copper nails and rivets.
